About Us

The foundation ‘Remember September 1944’ is founded in 2003. Main reason for doing this is the fact that local authorities – in the region where Market Garden took place – said they didn't want to have special memorial services in September. All memorial services should be held during our national liberation day; may 5th. The founder of the foundation thought this is the wrong point of view. What the veterans have done for all of us back then, should be something we must never forget. We must remember and honor the veterans, servicemen and civilians who fought for our freedom.

The first event took place in 2004. A wreath was placed, accompanied by American veterans, during a memorial service at Molenhoek. In September the same year, the foundation organized an exhibition to commemorate the liberation of Mook during Operation Market Garden. This exhibition was visited by 850 people, including 200 English and 50 American veterans.

Since 2005 the foundation has a small permanent exhibition in Mook, which yearly gets 100 visitors and the pupils of the local primary school.

In May 2005 the foundation organized an exhibition in Middelaar during the memorial services of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands.

At the moment we’re doing our best to organize new exhibitions for the memorial services of the 65th anniversary of Market Garden in September 2009. More information about this can be found in the menu ‘events’ at the top of this page.

The foundation is also busy doing investigations, answering questions from veterans, doing research concerning MIA’s and researching photograph material of Market Garden.
